TIME + SPACE in neurodivergent art practice

connecting to creative care in challenging times

Copper pipe blue ink + Elderberry pink ink

Hello folks.

A double edition of the INKLINGS podcast is available for you today exploring the themes of TIME and SPACE in creative practice. I share from my practice and experience, as a neurodivergent artist.

My understanding of TIME and SPACE has been hugely impacted over the last couple of years as I have seen my natural seasons, cycles and inclinations through the lens and experience of living with ADHD, from undiagnosed (and unaware) to diagnosed. These insights may be helpful to those who are both neurodivergent and neurotypical.

In light of the headf*ckery of the US election, this voice note offering reflects on how the root of the word CARE sits in that of GRIEF and LAMENT and how the heaviness of things can nurture our resolve to make time and space to create, to process our experience and do more of what brings us meaning, connection and joy.

How do we come back to our creative/making practices in challenging times?
How do we relate to ‘time’ and how does this impact our making?
What does creating space look like for us?

I heartily know in my bones that our art/writing/making/craft/music/creations are needed more than ever in times of great political and social challenge and fu*kery. Whether we make our art just for ourselves or for others too.

May you follow your INKLINGS towards that which brings you:

More connection.
More joy.
More care.
More feeling.
More making.
More beauty.
More creation.
More tending.
More expression.
More heart.
More play.
More exploration.
More curiosity.

In creative camaraderie,

KJ
